Your Favorite Artists/Genres

Just to see what we all have and haven't in common musically speaking, I was wondering what your favorite bands and/or genres are.

Anything special about your taste in music? Do you cling to metal alone or do you also like exploring other realms?

I'm always pretty wary answering to favourite band topics because I can't name 20 bands that I love, well because I don't. I'm pretty open to various genres but I'm very picky for what I like. For example, I could say that my favourite genre is symphonic/gothic metal, but that wouldn't be 100% right as a quite large amount of the bands falling into this sub-genre don't appeal to me at all.

My favourite band for past few years has been Within Temptation. They provide everything that I look for in a band, i.e. great vocals, catchy and relatively heavy melodies and great lyrics. On top of that they're brilliant live which can't be said about all bands.

My taste in music is best described as 'eclectic'; I really listen to anything that sounds like music. My CD collection ranges from opera classics to brutal death metal with loads of genres in between (pop, hiphop, r&b, rock, soul), but my main interest is metal.

I like most of the subgenres in metal except for hardcore, grindcore and screamo. I just don't get the 'ooo!'-feeling when listening to music belonging to those three genres. My favorite metal-genres are anything starting with 'melodic' or 'symphonic'; I really do love good melodies and orchestra bonanzas.

Recently, I've been listening to folk metal quite a lot; I really like the happiness that particular style of music evokes. Bands I listen to in that genre are Arkona, Finntroll, Korpiklaani, Eluveitie, amongst others.

I'm also into black metal these days -quite the contrast with folk metal, I know-. I love Satyricon and this new Dutch band called Carach Angren. I don't really like raw black metal, though, I need some symphonic elements in there.

Anyway, my all-time favorite band is After Forever. I've been listening to them since the release of their first album, and there's not a single album of theirs I don't like.

Other favorite bands/artists include:
Guano Apes, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Madonna, Ace of Base, Metallica, DragonForce, Satyricon, Keep of Kalessin, Arch Enemy, Doro, Judas Priest, Dream Evil, Rhapsody, Beth Hart, Apocalyptica, OTEP, Tourettes... the list goes on and on.

Also, I have a thing for bad 90s music such as 2 Unlimited and the like. Remember the Eurodance explosion back then? Yup, still not recovered from that one...

i have a very wide music taste, i'm not really that picky however when i find something i like i stick to it, as in i listen to it over and over and over, and i won't move on until i get bored. this leads to me not discovering as many new bands/styles as i might like to as i'm so happy with what i've got at the moment.

so what do i listen to?

my God is David Hasselhoff, and i know he can't really sing all that well but most of his songs are happy songs or about world peace which is always nice.

a lot of metal, mostly female fronted one: AF, Epica, Imperia, Nightwish and so on.

The Ark, Swedish glam rock band, is one of my favourite bands. they have all these very grand and wonderful songs.

and lots and lots of other wonderful music.

My taste in music is also rather varied. Most of my time I spend listening to metal, but I like a lot of different styles of music.

Last year, for example, I went to Dolly Parton, and this year I'm going to see Kylie Minogue. ;D
